Baby Got Back (Fat!)

There's nothing more disgusting than back fat. Those rolls on the back that nothing will cover up. There's only one way to get rid it it. . . lose the fat!

People try to wear those high-waisted girdle things, but all they do is push the fat up higher. And you can always tell when women are wearing them, because they have no crack! So your back fat is under your arm pits and you have no crack. And that look is better how? Real women have curves! Don't waste your money on those body briefer things.

Unplanned workouts are awesome. I was feeling very sleepy and had a headache going on, and decided at the last minute to go to Body Pump with my friend Kristi. We did it without thinking about it too much--we only had ten minutes till class started! It would have been so easy to skip it. That's the problem. If you think about the workout too much, you'll talk yourself out of it. You just have to say I'm going to do it with no buts, just do it. Five minutes in I was saying "why am I doing this," but I also said "I'll know why in another 55 minutes." It was true. I felt awesome the rest of the day! My headache was gone. Working out almost always gets rid of my headache and I don't have to take a bunch of ibuprofen.

The egg white quiche I made for breakfast was good. See recipe in yesterday's blog. I'd recommend sauteing the scallops, mushrooms, and leeks in a little light margarine and a splash of vermouth first to remove some of the liquid and kick up the flavor. Otherwise, it was pretty good for a light dish. I prefer something like eggs for breakfast, and I read that people who eat eggs at breakfast tend to lose more weight because it satisfies better than a breakfast of just carbs with no protein.

Recently I began eating beef again after about ten years. I don't know why, but I was craving it. I wanted fillet Mignon like every night! It didn't take long for me to gain about 7 or 8 pounds. I couldn't believe it! That was really the reason I cut it out to begin with. With so much heart disease and high blood pressure in my family, I figured cutting out red meat would be a good choice. I just heard this week that eating beef, cheese, and cream triggers something in your brain that makes you crave it for up to three days. I guess that explains why I couldn't stop eating beef once I started. Best to just stay away I guess. I am working on a healthy version of Julia Child's Boeuf Bourguignon. I think I'll call mine "Spoof Bourguignon." Look for that recipe soon.

Once a month it's cake at the office to celebrate birthdays. I was tempted, but I refrained. It's kind of like that episode of Seinfeld when Elaine protested the cake in the office. I'd do that, but there will be a day when I need the cake! I can usually bypass the sweets anyway. Give me cheese, butter, and cream baby!

Dinner was a healthy salad of baby spinach, broccoli, chick peas, green peas, shredded carrots and onions. Very colorful. I also had a dish adapted from my Weight Watchers cookbook--my revised version of their Teriyaki Salmon.

Steel head Trout with mushrooms and green onions
1 pound Steel head Trout (it's a lot like Salmon but a little less fishy and usually a little less expensive)
4 green onions, chopped
8 oz. sliced mushrooms
1/4 cup dry sherry
2 Tbs. brown sugar
2 Tbs. soy sauce

Saute the fish, green onions, and mushrooms in a pan sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Add the other ingredients and cook on med-high until fish is tender. Remove the fish and cook the onions and mushrooms in the liquid until it's reduced, 10-15 minutes. Pour the sauce with mushrooms and onions over the fish and serve.

It was pretty good. Till tomorrow. . .Eat well!
